It is the end of 2018 and, unfortunately, fans have yet to hear about the official release date of “Jane the Virgin” season 5. Given the timing, the chance of seeing an official teaser this year is also getting smaller.
Showrunner Jennie Urman previously implied that the show will premiere sometime in January. This is already several months behind the show’s original schedule for the first four seasons. Unfortunately, other than Urman’s social media post, there are no other official clues that “Jane the Virgin” season 5 would have a January 2019 premiere.
It is also important to note that last month, The CW revealed its official 2019 Midseason schedule and it did not include a premiere date for “Jane the Virgin” season 5. But it was confirmed that the show is moving to a new Wednesday timeslot next year.
Official trailers are usually released at least a couple of weeks prior to a show’s premiere. And the fact that no “Jane the Virgin” season 5 promo videos have surfaced yet could be hinting at a release date later than January 2019.
On the other hand, there is no doubt that it will not take long before “Jane the Virgin” season 5 arrives. Urman’s tweet is still a good reason to hope that the show will probably return within the first quarter of 2019. Actor Brett Dier, who plays the role of Michael, also revealed on Twitter that episodes 1 to 3 have completed all phases of production and are ready to air.
Fans still have a few more weeks to form theories on what happened to Michael, why he presumably faked his death, where did he go all those years that Jane (Gina Rodriguez) thought he was dead. Whatever explanation Michael has, his comeback will definitely lead to a major strain in Jane’s relationship with Rafael (Justin Baldoni), which brings back the great love triangle storyline in “Jane the Virgin” season 5.
Without spoiling anything about “Jane the Virgin” season 5, Urman told TVLine, “The biggest fear Rafael had was: Is he Jane’s second’s choice? And with the reappearance of this character — or this character that looks like him — that’s all going to be forefronted very dramatically.”
