“Jane the Virgin” Season 5 will be airing two weeks from now and fans can’t wait to see the impact of the previous finale’s plot twist. Now that Michael (Brett Dier) has been brought back from the dead, fans are asking how he survived his supposed death in the third installment, CheatSheet reported.
And more importantly, why did he distance himself from Jane (Gina Rodriguez) after all this time? Well, the answer could be amnesia. Since the satirical comedy-drama has been made with the idea of using telenovela tropes into its narrative, this assumption does hold weight. But what’s really providing heavy evidence to this speculation is the trailer of “Jane the Virgin” Season 5.
In it, Rogelio (Jaime Camil) can be seen repeatedly speaking his name to Michael perhaps in an attempt to jog his memory. “Nothing?” Rogelio asked as Michael is seen looking lost and confused; an unusual reaction given both men are close pals. There’s also the fact that show creator and executive producer Jennie Snyder Urman already shot down the twin trope, narrowing the possibility further. Another loose end that “Jane the Virgin” Season 5 is set to address is the relationship of Jane and Rafael (Justin Baldoni).
Now that Michael has returned to the picture, Jane will be hard-pressed who she’ll choose. And this complication has polarized the fans of the series. While some are arguing that Raf is the best choice for Jane, others would have it that Michael is the superior option given he has proven his love for the titular writer time and again. Snyder herself provided some hint what audiences can expect in this “Jane the Virgin” Season 5 plot.
“If it’s Michael, which you know we’ll see what we learn, I think it changes everything. In some ways, it’s the most heroic thing that Rafael could’ve done to bring him back, but also it’s his worst fear that if Michael was still there he would be Jane’s second choice. So with the reappearance of this character, I think he’s done the ultimate selfless act, but I think he’s put their relationship in great jeopardy and that will be a giant part of the storytelling when we finally return for [‘Jane The Virgin’ Season 5].” As for the release date of the fifth installment, CW announced that it will premiere on March 27.
