‘It’ officially added Owen Teague of ‘Bloodline’ fame to its growing cast. He is set to join Bill Skarsgard, who plays Pennywise the evil clown. The upcoming film, based on Stephen King’s novels of the same name, is a remake of the live-action adaptation first released in 1990.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Teague is set to play Patrick Hocksetter, character known as of the minor antagonists in Stephen King’s novel of the same name. Patrick is a member of a group of bullies out to torment the kids of the Losers Club. He is a known psychopath who tortures animals and keeps them in a refrigerator.
Teague is best known for his role in the Netflix original thriller-drama series ‘Bloodline’, where he plays the son of Ben Mendelsohn’s Danny Rayburn. He joins a growing cast that includes Bill Skarsgard as the evil entity Pennywise.
According to Consequence of Sound, Skarsgard nabbed the part of Pennywise following Will Poulter’s exit from the project. Skarsgard is set to play a mysterious demonic entity that takes on the form of a clown to haunt, stalk and terrorize children. Pennywise is known to possess the powers of shapeshifting, regeneration, partial invisibility, brain control, telepathy and teleportation.
The villain was first portrayed by Tim Curry on the supernatural horror television miniseries of the same name released in 1990. The miniseries aired on ABC as a two-part television film and received generally positive reviews from critics. Curry’s performance was widely praised for capturing the fictional character from the original novels.
As with the original adaptation, the upcoming remake will also be split into two parts. Part one will focus on children fighting off Pennywise while part two will feature the same children returning as adults to defeat Pennywise once and for all.
The upcoming horror film will be directed by Andres Muschietti following original director Cary Fukunaga’s departure from the project. According to /Film, Fukunaga left due to creative differences with Warner Bros. The filmmaker reportedly clashed with the studio after budget cuts posed problems for his artistic vision.
‘It’ is scheduled to be released on September 8, 2017 in the United States. It is produced by Seth Grahame-Smith, David Katzenberg, Roy Lee, Dan Lin, and Barbara Muschietti with Marty P. Ewing executive producing.
