Israeli soldiers shot and killed a Palestinian on Sunday after opening fire on three individuals accused of throwing rocks at cars in the occupied West Bank, according to the Israeli military. The incident also left one person wounded and another arrested. The Palestinian Red Crescent confirmed one fatality but did not provide additional details, and Palestinian officials have yet to issue a statement.
This confrontation came just a day after another deadly event in Hebron, where Israeli soldiers fatally shot a Palestinian teenager driving a car toward them and inadvertently killed a bystander. The military initially reported that two “terrorists” were involved before later clarifying that only the teen was driving the vehicle. An Israeli security official, speaking anonymously, identified the driver as 17-year-old Ahmed Khalil Al-Rajabi. The bystander, 55-year-old municipal street cleaner Ziad Naim Abu Dawood, was struck and killed while working, according to the Palestinian news agency WAFA.
The Palestinian health ministry confirmed Al-Rajabi’s death, while noting that no Israeli soldiers were injured during the confrontation. WAFA also reported another fatality, though details surrounding that shooting remain unclear.
These incidents come amid a sharp escalation in violence across the Israeli-occupied West Bank throughout the year. Palestinian communities have reported a significant increase in Israeli settler attacks, alongside expanded military raids and intensified movement restrictions in several West Bank cities. Since January, at least 51 Palestinian minors have been killed by Israeli forces in the region, according to the Palestinian health ministry.
Palestinian attacks targeting Israeli soldiers and civilians have also continued, contributing to the growing cycle of unrest. As tensions rise and confrontations become more frequent, international observers have expressed concern over the deteriorating security situation and the mounting civilian toll on both sides.
