Irish High Court To Rule On U.S. Extradition Of Silk Road Moderator In February

The Silk Road case is far from over. According to latest updates on the case, the Ireland High Court will decide on the extradition of Gary Davis on hacking and laundering charges emanating from the Silk Road website.

Irish authorities arrested Davis, otherwise known as “Libertas”, following the fall of the online black market where illegal drugs and other goods were sold. He was accused of being a moderator for the original Silk Road marketplace and was later released on bail.

According to the United States Justice Department, Davis and others helped Ross Ulbricht with the day-to-day operations of the Silk Road. Davis also faces charges relating to laundering of bitcoins. A Judge will rule in February on Davis’s extradition to the States, and he will face a life sentence, Bitcoin.com reported.

Davis has opposed to the extradition citing the prison standards in the US. He says that he suffers from Asperger’s Syndrome and deep depression and that he will be treated inhumanly in New York’s Metropolitan Correctional Centre.

Lawyers from the State Department believe Davis should be surrendered. If the Judge in Ireland does not view Davis’s objection as valid, chances are that he might be taken to the U.S.

Last month another suspect in the case a man called, “Variety Jones” was arrested in Thailand and faces extradition himself. According to authorities, Roger Thomas Clark went by the online moniker "Variety Jones and was the mastermind behind the operation and helped Ross Ulbricht.
