Social media mobile platform debuted its latest feature that curates real-time content streams of a particular event. Launching on Halloween, US users were reportedly prompted to watch "Watch Halloween's Best Videos," which then led them to viewing a live video content feed uploaded by users and curated by the Instagram team, Business Insider reports.
Re/code said the latest mobile feature appears to be a bid to scale up against industry contemporaries Snapchat and Twitter, which released Live Stories and Moments. The new Instagram feature is also “immersive,” as what the company said, and is absent of the usual design features that encompasses an Instagram post. Wired said a user can easily land in the immersive video feed by accessing the app and clicking on the Explore tab.
In an email, an Instagram spokesperson said, “[This is] just the start [for these kinds of curations.] This is a new way to experience events and big moments, as they happen, through the eyes of the Instagram community.”
