In response to the geo-filters by Snapchat, Instagram is launching stickers that can tell followers where the photo was taken, as well as others that convey emotion and would even include the seasons. This is another attempt by the Facebook acquired photo sharing app to capture the attention of users that are still flocking to Snapchat.
This is the first time that Instagram is implementing such a feature, which does make it unusually late to the party as far as the geo stickers go, Fortune reports. Using the stickers is as easy as tapping on the smiley face that is found at the top right corner of the screen when accessing the Instagram app.
After doing so, users will be given the option to choose from a variety of stickers which can include the weather, the time, the location, and the style upon taking the photo. Since the holidays are here, Instagram will also be offering seasonal stickers that would fit the Christmas spirit. This is only for a limited time, however, and will likely be unavailable once winter has ended.
These stickers are just some of the several additions that Instagram has launched with regards to editing photos that will be posted on the accounts of users. These include the addition of multiple text fields and the ability to record videos by simply tapping on the screen rather than keeping their fingers on the surface.
Instagram had always seemed more of an adult social media app where grownups could share their everyday lives to all of their grownup friends, TechCrunch reports. In contrast, Snapchat seemed to be a more dynamic option that didn’t feel restrictive or overly professional.
By adding these features, Instagram has taken a big leap in becoming a much more relatable service for the younger crowd. This should also help Facebook accumulate that younger demographic that it has been trying to court for some time now.
