Winston-Salem, NC, Aug. 16, 2017 -- More than 60 girls ranging in age from 11 years through 19 years filled Inmar’s headquarters in Wake Forest University’s Innovation Quarter recently. Guests of Inmar Empowering Women’s group, they participated in a daylong program focused on building confidence through exploring topics such as networking, wellness, respect, career opportunities and leadership.

The program was open to family of Inmar associates and participants in Big Brother Big Sisters of Winston-Salem. Each was assigned a mentor, heard the stories of Inmar women leaders and learned skills, such as how to begin building your resume – regardless of age or grade, how to start conversations with new people, how to identify their talents and passions and more. They also were introduced to Inmar’s Girls on Fire all-girl robotics team, who also attended the program.
More than 50 Inmar women leaders participated in the day, from planning content and activities, to speaking, mentoring and helping with logistics, such as meals and tours of Inmar’s LEED Platinum Certified building, which was originally an RJ Reynolds tobacco processing plant that had been vacant for decades.
“Studies consistently show that girls begin to lose confidence in middle school” says Sharon Joyner-Payne, EVP, Corporate Communications and Great Teams!, Inmar. “It is important that they interact with women leaders who understand where they are – have had similar experiences and emerged on the other side. Mentoring and coaching prove to be one of the ways to help girls build their confidence. Our goal with Empowering Girls’ Event was to provide tools and relationships that can inspire them to learn and grow.
