Love the first three of the thirteen episodes of Hulu’s critically-acclaimed series “The Handmaid’s Tale” released on April 26th? You’ll be glad to know that the streaming service has ordered for a full second season installment of the dystopian thriller.
Hulu said the show renewal made sense, considering that its premiere is the most watched than any other series premiere in its catalogue. Craig Erwich, head of original content, added in a statement, "The response we’ve seen to 'The Handmaid’s Tale' in just one week since its premiere has been absolutely incredible. “The Handmaid’s Tale” is exactly the type of gripping and thought-provoking storytelling we want to bring to viewers."
Headlined by Elizabeth Moss, “The Handmaid’s Tale” is based off from the titular novel of author Margaret Atwood, where it details the life of a captured woman in a theocratic regime in the United States as she navigates her life as a handmaid, or a subversive servant for procreation.
The show also features “Gilmore Girls” star Alexis Bledel, who has since returned to the small screen since her show’s revival limited series on Netflix, “Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life.” In an interview, Bledel said the material offered to her in the show was enticing ever since she became a new mom. Bledel had a son with ex-”Mad Men” co-star and husband Vincent Kartheiser in 2015. In “The Handmaid’s Tale,” she also plays a handmaid along with Moss’ character.
"More than anything, I just think about what roles I take on, and make sure that it's really something that I feel passionate about if I'm going to leave home and go work. I just want to love what I'm doing," she explained.
