There is no doubt that most of the comforts and conveniences of the modern lifestyle are due to the technological innovations that have made it to the consumer market. Unfortunately, technology can be a double-edged sword and a few people these days are already complaining about the complexity and added pressure caused by the emergence of new technologies. Here’s how one can make peace with technology instead of letting it ruining one’s life.
Get on top of your social media feed
The advantages of social media can’t be denied. It allows one to instantly get in touch with one’s friends and family, reconnect with long-lost friends, market one products or services and even expand one’s social network.
However, social media does have its own set of disadvantages. There are studies linking social media to increased depression as well as opening up the possibility that one might become the target of cyberbullying.
Obviously, most people can’t totally live off-grid and do away with social media. The best way to benefit from this technology while minimizing its potential downside is to control what appears on one’s feed. If a person feels that a contact’s post is starting to get annoying or is getting more offensive, it’s probably best to lose that contact for good.
Screen time concerns
To stay updated, it’s necessary to be on your gadget for a period of time. But be mindful that not every minute spent on your smartphone or laptop scrolling down the endless feed is productive. One can easily lose hours each day by just mindlessly scrolling through those unending videos and memes, time that could have been spent more productively elsewhere.
or those who are starting to feel that they’ve been spending too much time on their phones or laptops, that’s probably the case. It’s best to limit the number of minutes one spends on those gadgets each day. Fortunately, both Android and iOS have features that let their users know they’ve been spending too much time on their phones.
Some notifications are not needed
It’s probably to get notified if something really important is up. But bear in mind that not every notification is necessary, it can easily get annoying if one gets notifications for every little thing that’s happening to one’s numerous online accounts.
The trick is to go over one’s alert settings and activate only those that matter. As for the rest, they’re probably not worth knowing anyway.
