There’s still no news about “High School Musical 4” even though the foundation for the film has been made 10 years ago. While there are numerous speculations being thrown around the web, Disney has yet to break their silence about the fourth installment.
The last time that the Mouse House said something about “High School Musical 4” was back in 2009. Disney President and Chief Creative Officer Gary Marsh said that the film will focus on the rivalry between East High Wildcats and West High Knights, Broadway World reported.
“The creative challenge for [High School Musical 4] is to deliver every element that the audience expects and then re-invent those elements in a bold new way. Clearly, we're thrilled to have our screenwriter from all three 'HSM' movies back, along with our producing and songwriting teams. Adding a dynamic, imaginative, visual stylist like Jeffrey Hornaday as our director/choreographer introduces the perfect catalyst to take this team to the next level,” Marsh previously said.
A decade later, nothing ever came off the plan and the fate of “High School Musical 4” remains in the air. There’s also the fact that the stars of the trilogy aren’t interested in reprising their roles.
Ashley Tisdale previously expressed her gratitude about being included in the franchise’s success but also said her inclusion to the films made it difficult for her to land other roles. Meanwhile, Vanessa Hudgens said that she doesn’t want to be a part of “High School Musical 4” due to her age. And even if she was offered a more mature role – like a teacher – she still wouldn’t consider the part as she’s still “a teenager at heart,” Business Times reported.
So will “High School Musical 4” ever see the light of day? The possibility is still there although if it does happen, the cast will be completely new. Right now, the attention of the franchise’s fans is occupied by the spin-off series to be aired on Disney’s own streaming platform. The story will take place 15 years after the first film ended and will feature new casts. It goes without saying that those responsible for creating the series are faced with tremendous pressure given that the original films are considered one of Disney’s best originals.
