When Sega announced that it would be making some of its most iconic video games available for free on mobile, the world waited in anticipation. Now that the service is available, some might be wondering what games are available for download. Just to make things easier for old and new fans of classic games alike, here are the games that are available for free.
On the Sega Forever website, the company lists the games that are currently up for grabs and the ones that are likely to be available in due course. Sega still has a sizeable library of hit games even after it had to sell off a lot of them. For now, the titles that iOS and Android users can get are as follows:
- Sonic the Hedgehog
- Altered Beast
- Phantasy Stat II
- Kid Chameleon
- Comix Zone
As Sega’s most iconic figure and its literal mascot, it was natural for the company to put Sonic the Hedgehog at the forefront of this new venture. The title is still the same one that fans fondly recall during the glory days of the side-scrolling mania, which the video game company pitted against Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros.
Altered Beast is one of Sega’s most popular offering, featuring characters that can turn into various creatures, including tigers, bears, and dragons. The goal of the game is to overcome the challenges of the horror environment, fighting their way through five varied levels.
In terms of epic RPG elements, Phantasy Star II was certainly one of Sega’s gems. Featuring turn-based combat, colorful characters, and an engaging story, this Sci-Fi title is a worth checking out at least once.
Platformer Kid Chameleon was a mammoth of a game in its day. Players took control of a human character who had to travel 100 stages riddled with secrets, unique tasks, and a bunch of challenges.
Finally, there’s Comix Zone, which is about as much of an arcade game as it can get. What made it interesting, however, is that it involved a comic book creator being trapped in his own work, Inquisitr reports. Now, he has to fight his way through in order to escape.
