GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn., Aug. 18, 2017 -- Calorie-laden foods, cute animals, thrilling rides, and people-watching are among the attractions that lure 1.8 million people to the Minnesota State Fair each year. Health Fair 11 at the Fair provides a fun, healthy opportunity as well.
This is the 17th year that Health Fair 11 at the Fair has organized free and low-cost screenings and health education opportunities at the Minnesota State Fair. Sixteen organizations are joining forces in the Health Fair 11 building.
"The State Fair is filled with all kinds of temptations," said Craig Hotvedt, Executive Director of Health Fair 11. "Health Fair 11 at the Fair has become the healthy State Fair tradition for many people attending the Fair."
Get checked out (again)!
Among the services offered this year: blood pressure checks, hearing assessments, blood typing, balance screenings, and memory-loss evaluations. Fair goers can weigh themselves, learn about food allergies, and pick up the official list of state fair foods that are gluten-free. Flu shots are available daily for people age eight and older (People are reminded to bring proof of insurance). Fair-goers will also find an area to relax while recharging personal electronic devices – for free!
New this year
New moms will find two private Mothers’ Rooms for nursing their babies. With the start of school just around the corner, parents can talk with experts on treating head lice. During the first weekend of the fair, people can test their skills operating a robotic surgical system.
Location, location, location
Health Fair 11 at the Fair is located in the Crossroads building at the southwest corner of Dan Patch Avenue and Cooper Street. The building is open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Health Fair 11 first opened its doors to back in 2001. Since then more than 955,000 screenings and health connections have been documented. The exhibit is made possible by Health Fair 11, a nonprofit organization, and its sponsors UCare and KARE 11. Learn more at www.HealthFair11.org.
