Amazon has ordered a TV series adaptation to the 2011 drama film “Hanna.”
According to Deadline, the straight-to-series order has been given to David Farr, who adapted “The Night Manager” for BBC/AMC, and NBCUniversal International Studios. The series will reportedly be a coming-of-age drama and part high-concept thriller about an extraordinary girl named Hanna. Actress Saoirse Ronan gave life to the character as the badass daughter of a former government operative (Eric Bana), who used all her training to reunite with her father while evading the CIA led by Cate Blanchett’s character. Joe Wright directed the film, which grossed over USD100 million worldwide.
“From the moment JoAnn Alfano and I saw Hanna it was evident that the film would make an incredible TV series. Fortunately, David Farr felt there was more Hanna story to tell and wanted to revisit this extraordinary world. We’re excited to be in business with David, Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements who share our passion for this compelling story. The team at Amazon have been incredibly supportive and we are delighted this show will air on a platform that continues to generate exceptional content,” said Michael Edelstein, President of NBCUniversal International Studios.
There is no word yet about the casting for the upcoming series, or if any of the original actors from the 2011 film will be crossing over. However, Screenrant said it is possible that “Hanna” the TV series will simply be a fleshed-out retelling of the original, and might be a perfect vehicle for Far to explore the dramatic moments in the original film version.
