‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ actor Vin Diesel has a secret script prepared for his character Groot. Meanwhie, James Gunn revealed that casting Kurt Russell as the new character Ego was Chris Pratt’s idea.
According to the Independent, director James Gunn revealed that he prepared a special secret script for Diesel’s Groot that only he and the actor have access to. The script translates Groot’s repetitive “I am Groot” into actual English meanings.
Gunn posted an image of the cover page of the script with the caption, “This is the special Groot version of the script that only Vin Diesel and I have, where every Groot line is printed in English instead of Groot, so Vin will know what the various "I am Groot"s mean. I love putting this thing together.”
Diesel was first introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as the voice of Groot in Gunn’s first film ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, released on August 2014. It was deemed a critical and commercial success. According to The Numbers, the film earned $771.17 million worldwide on a production budget of $170 million.
Groot is a tree-like humanoid possessing high human intellect. He is the accomplice of the intergalactic criminal Rocket Racoon.
He is known to possess superhuman strength, durability, and speed. He also possesses a regenerative healing factor contributing to his longevity and rebirth. He can manipulate his body to form organic weapons and defenses and can generate light and flora.
Diesel is joined by returning co-stars Chris Pratt as Peter Quill a.k.a. Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, and Bradley Cooper as Rocket. Kurt Russell is set to join the cast as Star-Lord’s long-lost father Ego.
Gunn revealed that Russell’s casting was Pratt’s idea. According to /Film, he said, “He was actually not in my head initially, but one day Chris suggested him, and I would have been really disappointed if he’d said no. Hey, if you have to cast anything, Kurt’s a pretty good way to go.”
It was previously revealed that one of the big themes for the sequel will be about family relationships. According to io9’s Gizmodo, Pratt teased, “You’re going to see these characters having to endure the realities of being in a family… You’re talking about a guy who’s been longing to know who his father is for a long time. He’ll discover if that person lives up to the expectations he has in his head.”
‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film scheduled to premiere on May 5, 2017. It is written and directed by James Gunn and produced by Kevin Feige. It is produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures in the USA.
