‘Guardian of the Witch’ chapter 13: What happened in Claude’s past that changed his personality

Fafner, Manasfa, and Nahta will finally implement their plan of infiltrating Spica’s tower in “Guardian of the Witch” chapter 13. In addition, the upcoming manga installment might even feature a bit about Claude’s past.

‘Guardian of the Witch’ chapter 12 recap

While Fafner, Manasfa, and Nahta managed to enter Valli, they were soon found out by Claude Graus, Valli’s guardian. The reason for the discovery is that Fafner and the rest stole guardian clothes so they easily stood out from the general population.

Claude tried to hinder the three’s movement using gravity magic with Valli’s witch Spica Coulane. They used regular pebbles to attack but, under the effects of gravity magic, each rock had a ton of force behind them that Fafner parried them with a bit of difficulty.

Claude was surprised that Fafner was able to swat the pebbles away with seeming ease. He changed tactics and used Gravity Bind, which had the effect of increasing Fafner’s weight.

Initially, he used 10 G, which increased Fafner’s weight to ten times its normal, to restrict the intruder. Seeing that Fafner can still move around, he increased it to 20 G, then doubled it to 40 G and finally settled on 50 G.

To Claude’s surprise, Fafner was still able to move, albeit with great difficulty. “A normal person’s spine would have been crushed at 30 G,” he told Fafner. “Nevertheless, resistance is futile… This magic – in other words, these rules – are absolute.”

The mention of rules irked Fafner. “The only rules I follow are my own,” he retorted back before escaping from the gravity field and launching an attack on Claude.

Manasfa then unleashed an explosion that created a smokescreen. The trio was able to get away from Claude. He also realized that Manasfa and Fafner know how to battle as a proper witch-guardian team, which was not mentioned in previous reports.

While the three were fleeing, Manasfa had the idea of trying to befriend Valli’s witch Spica. Nahta tried to dissuade Manasfa but Fafner came up with an even more outrageous plan as he proposed of recruiting Valli’s witch-guardian team.

Later, Claude was reprimanded by Valli’s Rector Hugo Ouv Shishimaru for letting the three deserters escape. “If you bring me the three deserters alive, I may forgive you,” the rector told Claude. “I can make good use of a few more slaves.”

‘Guardian of the Witch’ chapter 13 predictions

Fafner, Manasfa, and Nahta will infiltrate the witch’s tower in “Guardian of the Witch” chapter 13. Once inside, they will try to explain to Spica why they had to escape from their city-state. Manasfa will try to convince Spica that there is still hope for witches not to turn in to devils.

“Guadian of the Witch” chapter 13 might also reveal why Claude seems bent on following rules to the letter. In the recent chapter, Spica revealed that their personalities were different in the past. It was Spica who was fussy in obeying the rules while it was Claude who was always looking for excuses to break them.

It appears that something might have happened to Claude in the past that made him change. “The person I was back then is gone,” Claude said to himself. “I abandoned him, Spica.”

“Guardian of the Witch” chapter 13 will arrive on May 11 on Mangaplus.
