“Gotham” Season 5 is heavily anticipated by the fans of the crime drama series given how the finale of the previous installment ended. As it can be recalled, Jerome (Cameron Monaghan) handed control of the city to several villains vying for power after he blew up the bridge of Gotham.
In “Gotham” Season 5, chaos will rule over the populace of the city, with multiple antagonists vying for power. What’s more, each of these villains' position will be established quickly in the fifth installment by having the show go through a flash forward of 87 days.
And in the premiere of “Gotham” Season 5, another flash forward will occur that will accelerate the storyline by more than a year. What’s more, there will be another addition to the already sprawling villain cast of the crime drama series.
Bane (Shane West) will be featured in “Gotham” Season 5 as a former military friend of Gordon (Ben McKenzie) who will ultimately become one of Batman’s (David Mazouz) strongest foes. Showrunner John Stephens said that West did a remarkable job of fleshing out the iconic villain and bringing in a unique air for the character, Comic Book reported.
"When Shane comes in to play he him, he plays him with a level of – this is weird to say, but –authenticity," Stephens said. "You believe that character and you believe that guy." The showrunner added that a popular event in the “Knightfall” storyline has also been tweaked for “Gotham” Season 5.
The event in question is the popular scene where Bane broke the back of Batman. In “Gotham” Season 5, Alfred (Sean Pertwee) will be on the receiving end of this injury as the Wayne butler will come face to face with the inhumanly strong antagonist. Although Alfred will land some significant blows on Bane, the butler will ultimately succumb to the villain’s strength in the end.
While Stephens praised the performance of West, some fans of the series aren’t too impressed as to how they portrayed the character. The photo of Bane that was recently released received a few negative remarks from viewers as it’s not exactly what they were expecting. Of course, it’s important to understand that the series has been billed from the start as an origin story for prominent characters of the franchise and Bane isn’t an exception. “Gotham” Season 5 will undoubtedly provide a lot of character development for this villain and how he will eventually transform into the beefy antagonist everyone has come to love and respect.
As for the release date of the fifth installment, Warner Bros. has yet to announce anything but it’s speculated that it will air in the early months of 2019. “Gotham” Season 5 will certainly be an interesting story to follow, especially since this will be the final installment for the crime drama.
