‘Gotham’ season 3’s episode 15, titled “Heroes Rise: How the Riddler Got His Name," will follow Edward Nygma as he transforms into DC’s iconic supervillain, the Riddler. Actor Cory Michael Smith, who plays Nygma in the series, talked about his character’s evolution during a previous interview.
The synopsis for “Heroes Rise: How the Riddler Got His Name" posted on TV Guide reads, “Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) convinces himself that he doesn't need Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) to succeed and begins to introduce himself to Gotham as "the Riddler."
Bullock (Donal Logue) and Lucius Fox (Chris Chalk) get caught up in Nygma's mind games while Gordon (Ben McKenzie) learns troubling news about his father's death. Meanwhile, the Court of the Owls reveals its next move.”
The upcoming episode is set to feature Edward Nygma’s full transformation into the infamous DC supervillain Riddler. He is set to take over Gotham City under his powerful and dangerous new persona.
During a previous interview with Cartermatt, Cory Michael Smith revealed that he enjoyed the current season of the crime-drama television series so far. He said, “I feel like his evolution has been one of the more extreme ones on the show, which I’ve thoroughly enjoyed.”
He continued, “At this point, it’s not necessarily about what’s airing at the moment — we just aired episode 12, and we have two more in this little winter [run] — but when when we come back in the spring with episode 15, the title of that episode is ‘How the Riddler Got His Name.’ I’m having a f—ing ball.”
When asked about his character’s evolution into one of DC’s most iconic villains, he replied, “I think what’s really exciting is that Ed is not bashful about his intelligence, and what’s really exciting for him is that he’s got this big project. He’s out to ruin Penguin, and if that actually works, he has to figure out how to run the city himself… If he pulls it off he will have a lot of power with Barbara, whether he wants it or not.”
Smith’s Nygma was last seen engaged in a heated confrontation with Cobblepot over Isabella’s (guest star Chelsea Spack) murder. Although Cobblepot tried to convince Nygma of his love and loyalty, Nygma shot him anyway and dropped him into Gotham Harbor. The synopsis teased that Nygma a.k.a. Riddler will successfully convince himself that he is capable of power even without Cobblepot by his side in the upcoming episode.
‘Gotham’ season 3’s episode 15, titled “Heroes Rise: How the Riddler Got His Name," is scheduled to air on Fox on April 24, 2017. It will be followed by episode 16, titled "These Delicate and Dark Obsessions," is scheduled to be released on May 1 and directed by Ben McKenzie.
