Google announced Project Fi in April this year. It is a program to deliver a fast, easy wireless experience in close partnership with leading carriers, hardware makers, and users.
On Monday, Project Fi’s official Twitter account tweeted that to celebrate the shipment of Nexus5X, Project Fi is giving out instant invites for 24 hrs. Project Fi is compatible with Nexus 5x, Nexus 6P and Nexus 6 and requires coverage area provided by either Sprint or T-Mobile, Engadget reported.
Project Fi puts the device on the best available network between Wi-Fi and two 4G LTE networks. Whenever 4G LTE is available, it will move to whichever cellular network has the fastest 4G LTE and when 4G LTE isn't available, it will move to the fastest network type in the area (3G or 2G).
Coming to the pricing plans, Fi Basics is available for $20/month. It includes unlimited domestic talk and text, unlimited international texts, Wi-Fi tethering to use phone as a hotspot, and access cellular coverage in 120+ countries.
What makes this more interesting is that users can get a credit for unused data budget which could be used to lower next month’s bill. Users will get a credit for nearly one cent per MB. In case a user is going above the set data budget, first Project Fi will alert the user that they are getting close to the limit and once they go over, they will still get full-speed data and data is charged at the same $10 per GB rate.
