GoPro Hero 8 release date: New camera cage could mean more expensive accessories

The GoPro Hero 8 is expected to revamp all three of its variants as stated by CEO Nick Woodman himself. It’s still unclear, however, what sort of changes the company will be implementing since they’re still maintaining their silence about the next entry.

In lieu of concrete information, users have turned to rumors to get an idea what upgrades the GoPro Hero 8 will bring. One of the improvements that will be outfitted on the device is apparently a new cage to house the action camera.

What’s more, users will be able to slot in attachments on this new body ranging from LED lights to a second screen that can be flipped, Photo Rumors reported. One of the things that have been requested by users is a front-facing screen for the GoPro Hero 8 to make it easier to shoot vlog videos for people who are pushing out travel content.

GoPro Hero 8 and the battery discussion

The bad news is that it’s unlikely that the second display is included with the initial purchase and will probably cost you more money since the action camera’s accessories don’t come cheap. GoPro is a business at the end of the day, after all. Another bad news for the GoPro Hero 8 is that no rumors are claiming it will have improved battery life.

With the Hero 7’s battery only lasting 1 hour and 45 minutes, users have been asking the company to upgrade this aspect, especially since the battery drains further when shooting at a higher resolution. GoPro Hero 8 sorely needs this upgrade what with the new screen sapping more power. And that’s not mentioning the heating issues that have been widely reported.

GoPro Hero 8 will apparently have a new processor

Under its hood, the GoPro Hero 8 is reportedly going to have the GP2 processor that will be more power-efficient and improve shooting performance in low-light, stabilization, and zoom-in quality. Another upgrade that the rumor is claiming is that the camera can supposedly shoot at 4K/120 fps, which would be incredible for people who are in the sports action scene. But this brings us back to the battery discussion yet again.

Whatever the case, it’s expected that the company will be breaking their silence about the GoPro Hero 8 this month. Following that, an October release date could follow.
