GoPro Hero 8 is expected to come out in three different iterations similar to what’s been done to the Hero 7. This has pretty much been confirmed by GoPro CEO Nick Woodman after announcing that they’re going to refresh their lineup “on all price points” for the eighth entry.
Unfortunately, there’s still no confirmation whether or not GoPro Hero 8 will see major changes for its software and hardware throughout all levels. In the past, the flagship variant – the black one – was the only level that’s seen an improvement.
GoPro Hero 8 should respond strongly against competition
Thus, there are assumptions out there that the low and mid-tier versions will only see minor upgrades, although this is mere speculations at this point. With the DJI Osmo Action stepping up and creating a legitimate competition for the GoPro Hero 8, the San Mateo-based company is in a position to respond strongly to solidify that they’re still the leading manufacturer of action cameras, Know Hero reported.
How strong this response will be remains to be seen given that there’s no genuine leak surrounding the GoPro Hero 8. What’s been circulating so far are merely rumors and things that users want to see for the next upcoming entry.
Arguably the most welcome upgrade that the GoPro Hero 8 can bring is allowing the HyperSmooth feature to function at Full HD when shooting at 120 fps and 240 fps. Sure, standard stabilization is still available for the former but it isn’t HyperSmooth, TechRadar reported.
GoPro Hero 8 should lower its price unless it’s outfitted with stellar specs
Another improvement that the company should focus on is the display. Providing more real estate for the screen by outfitting an edge-to-edge display for the GoPro Hero 8 could prove to be popular among users, especially for those who are having difficulty navigating its UI. And of course, lowering its price would hammer all these points home.
With the Hero 7 and the DJI Osmo Action 4K camera practically standing shoulder to shoulder on this regard, the GoPro Hero 8 could overtake the race by offering major upgrades at a competitive cost. But there is an exception.
If the company manages to outfit the GoPro Hero 8 – especially the flagship variant – with jaw-dropping specs, then a bump in price could still be tolerated by the users. As for when it’ll be released, nothing has been confirmed on this end either. However, given that new variants for the series have been coming in September on an annual basis, it’s safe to assume that the GoPro Hero 8 will drop during this month. So for those who are planning to buy an action camera, best wait until September and see what the GoPro Hero 8 is offering.
