The GoPro Hero 8 is another anticipated entry for the action camera series despite the ubiquitous presence of high-end smartphone that can relatively achieve the same result. Indeed, the action camera market was being threatened by the creeping tech advancement of smartphones.
It was only a couple of years ago that it came roaring back to life when the GoPro focused its energy on pushing the boundaries forward, which eventually led to the creation of the Hero 7 Black. So what are the specs of GoPro Hero 8 that would once again challenge the limits of action cameras?
Unfortunately, there’s still no news about the upcoming device and its capabilities as the San Mateo-based company remains mum about the matter. But this doesn’t stop its massive following from speculating what is going to be included in the GoPro Hero 8, Camera Jabber reported.
The rumor that will most likely translate to reality is that the upcoming device will have three variants, similar to what the company did with the current model. As such, the GoPro Hero 8 might have the White, Silver, and Black iteration returning with differing specs. Transitioning to framerate and resolution quality, it’s not expected that the next model will have massive changes compared to the current entry.
While it would be awesome to have the GoPro Hero 8 shoot at 8K resolution, it’s unlikely that the company would go down this route. Computers capable of processing 8K content isn’t widespread at the moment, and most are even struggling when handling 4K video. Thus, it’s expected that the device will have a 4K, 60fps video capture or perhaps an improved version of it.
Another feature that the community has been asking is the return of the video + photo capture seen in the Hero 5 series. To put briefly, the desire is geared towards ease of life as taking stills from video yields poor images resulting in users being forced to shoot clips at 4K resolutions. The company would do well to outfit the GoPro Hero 8 with this feature to take advantage of Hero 5 owners that may be looking to upgrade their action camera, VW reported. Regarding its release date, the device is expected to come out this September as its previous iterations hit the shelves during this time.
