Following the Nordic diet can increase life expectancy

The question of how to live longer has existed for a long time, and there has yet to be a definite answer or a definite key to be able to live a long and healthy life. A new report reveals that a kind of diet is shown to increase one’s life expectancy.

There is no one answer to the question of how to live longer. It is mainly attributed to the food or diet one eats, to what one drinks regularly, to even lifestyle changes such as how much exercise a person engages in a week. It can also be attributed to someone’s mental well-being or disposition. This is given how some people who are generally very happy and carefree, living their lives as stress-free as possible, would well be approaching a century old, or at least the 90’s. In this case, Express reports, a diet followed by people living in the Nordic regions, such as Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Iceland, and Norway, is a way to increase life expectancy.

This is called the Nordic diet, named so back in 2004 by a group of scientists, chefs, and nutritionists. It is very similar to the Mediterranean diet, a widely recommended diet plan for those who suffer from health problems or who just want to eat healthier. The Nordic diet is made up of local, sustainable, and traditional foods with an emphasis on what is considered healthy. It also uses less sugar, but a lot more fiber, seafood, and canola oil instead of extra virgin olive oil.

Red meat is rarely eaten in a Nordic diet, and foods with added sugars, sugar-sweetened drinks, processed meats and fast foods are generally avoided. This diet may have played a part in the low obesity levels in these countries.

Along with the Nordic diet, another report claims that adding chili peppers to meals can help increase life expectancy. Some studies have shown how chili peppers that are incorporated into dishes have been linked to a reduced risk of mortality. The benefits to adding this spice or as to why this spice is linked to a longer lifespan has yet to be definitively determined, but experts believe that it may be because chili peppers contain capsaicin, and capsaicin plays a role in cellular and molecular mechanisms that help prevent obesity and regulate coronary blood flow. Capsaicin also contains anti-microbial properties as well.
