Rockville, MD, Feb. 07, 2018 -- Fisher House Foundation reached a new milestone recently after providing eight million nights of lodging to military, veterans and their families since 1990. As of today, on any given night, up to 1000+ families can safely and free of charge sleep in a Fisher House.

Fisher House Foundation is best known for a network of homes where military and veterans’ families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving treatment. Fisher Houses have up to 21 suites with private bedrooms and baths. Families share a common kitchen, laundry facilities, a warm dining room and an inviting living room. The Foundation has saved military and veterans’ families an estimated $400+ million in out-of-pocket costs for lodging and transportation.
“We are so thankful to have reached this milestone,” said Ken Fisher, Chairman and CEO of Fisher House Foundation. “Thanks to a generous American public, we have been able to continue our mission for over 25 years. These homes are much more than just a refuge or free place to stay. They also provide a place for the entire family to heal together.”
One of those families was the Mitchells. “I am convinced that the best medicine is family and love,” said Col. Ben Mitchell, USA (Ret.). “Waking up in the morning and having my kids jump in bed with me was the catalyst that drove me to such a rapid rehabilitation. We could not have done this without Fisher House.”
The Foundation also operates the Hero Miles Program, using donated frequent flyer miles to bring family members to the bedside of injured service members, as well as the Hotels for Heroes program using donated hotel points to allow family members to stay at hotels near medical centers without charge. The Foundation also manages a grant program that supports other military charities and scholarship funds for military children, spouses and children of fallen and disabled veterans.
“Eight million nights of lodging is so much more than a statistic,” said Fisher. “It represents the number of lives that Fisher House has touched. In fact, on any given night up to 1,000 families can safely and free of charge stay in a Fisher House. These are the families of our military and veterans, whom we are privileged and honored to serve.”
