NEW YORK, Aug. 23, 2017 -- Fiduciary Trust Company International, a global wealth manager and wholly-owned subsidiary of Franklin Templeton Investments, has appointed Gerard F. Joyce, Jr. as national head of trust & estates. Mr. Joyce, who is based in New York, will oversee the firm’s trust and estates strategy and administration in the U.S. His responsibilities will include leading Fiduciary Trust’s team of professionals who engage with clients and their advisors globally to develop charitable, estate, and wealth transfer plans.
“Gerry has many years of experience working closely with high-net-worth individuals and families to help them achieve their long-term financial goals,” said John M. Dowd, chief executive officer of Fiduciary Trust Company International. “As a proven, well-respected leader in our industry, Gerry will help us strengthen and grow our trust and estates business so we can continue to provide a broad spectrum of services to our clients for many years to come.”
Mr. Joyce has decades of experience leading domestic and international trust businesses and developing estate plans for sophisticated private clients. He joins Fiduciary Trust after nearly 17 years at HSBC Private Bank, where he served as managing director and head of the U.S. personal trust division. At HSBC Private Bank, Mr. Joyce directed all major U.S. personal trust business decisions and had front-line responsibility for fiduciary risk management, including fiduciary oversight of personal trust account investments. He also met with current and prospective clients to discuss estate planning ideas and other trust and estate issues.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Joyce served as executive vice president at Brown Brothers Harriman Trust Co., where he had senior-level responsibility for the day-to-day fiduciary operations for the firm’s New York and Cayman Islands trust subsidiaries and worked closely with domestic and international clients to develop customized trust and estates strategies. He was also vice president and director of estate planning at Bankers Trust Co., and advised clients on estate planning matters as an attorney with law firms in Boston and New York.
Mr. Joyce holds a Juris Doctor degree from the Fordham University School of Law (Law Review) and a Bachelor of Science degree in finance from Lehigh University.
“I greatly admire Fiduciary Trust’s long and proud history of providing world-class investment and wealth management for its clients, including multiple generations of families,” said Mr. Joyce. “I look forward to working with the team at Fiduciary Trust to create strategies that address all investing and wealth management needs—as we continue to ensure that clients’ wealth is managed and passed on as intended.”
