Government Town Hall meetings are some of the most important aspects to Democracy that often come with some frustrating blunders that inconvenience people. Facebook just found a way to make political involvement a lot easier for its users with the feature called “Town Hall.” Not only will this new addition help track politicians, it also makes voting more efficient.
As PC Mag reports, the new feature does two things quite effectively: it lets voters know who their politicians are on all levels of government and it tells them when they should vote. Considering just how many Americans don’t know who their senators are, when Town Hall meetings are held, and when it’s time to cast their vote, this can be a huge help for Democracy.
In any case, using the new feature is quite easy as well. All users have to do is visit the site, input all of the relevant details such as their home address, and it will be integrated into the user’s profile on Facebook’s main platform.
Upon receiving the relevant data, the social media site will then present the users with a list of options on the politicians that they have. The names range from the state level to the local government seats. Next to each name are contact details that will allow users to either send their leaders emails or call their offices. For those who want to stay up to date on the activities of their politicians, users could also click on the “Follow” button.
Anyone who needs reminding of when they need to participate during Election Day can configure the setting to do so. This ensures that, even if some users don’t want to interact with their politicians, they will still be able to participate in the voting process. This isn’t Facebook’s first foray into political education, Mashable notes, but it is the most useful.
