KANSAS CITY, Kan., Dec. 14, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Epiq Systems (NASDAQ:EPIQ), a leading global provider of integrated technology solutions for the legal profession, today announced that Brookes Taney, vice president of data breach solutions, was named a 2015 CyberSecurity & Data Privacy Trailblazer by The National Law Journal. Taney will be speaking on the "You've Been Hacked!" response workshop forum at ALM's CyberSecure event in New York City on December 16.
The National Law Journal's Trailblazer Award program began in 2013 and recognizes 50 of the top legal professionals in the United States. The list honors individuals who have changed the legal world through the use of innovative legal strategies. Taney, a pioneer in data breach response, began leading Epiq's data breach response business unit in 2011. That year, Epiq handled projects involving the administration of 300,000 breach notifications. Under Taney's leadership, that number has increased exponentially—in 2015 alone, Epiq administered breach response tactics for approximately 50 million individuals.
The secret to Epiq's success is customer service, according to Taney. Class action lawsuits are more likely to occur when already-frustrated consumers sit on hold for long periods of time attempting to get information regarding a breach. Taney focuses on serving those individuals contacting Epiq with concerns about the breach—he says that they must come away from the conversation feeling that their complaints have been heard and that the situation is under control.
"Many clients who hire us for data breach response services reach out immediately afterwards for additional, non-breach-related call center engagements," said Taney. "Once they see the sheer call volume we can handle and the quality of our customer service, they want us to help with other business needs. Epiq has gained many longstanding clients this way."
About Brookes Taney
Brookes Taney is a frequent speaker and author on the topic of data breach best practices. Prior to his role as vice president of data breach solutions, Taney served as Epiq's senior director of bankruptcy creditor solutions and senior director of corporate services. In those roles, he partnered with top 10 financial institutions and mortgage servicers and provided critical bankruptcy data to help them comply and meet the requirements of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.
