A recent drone flyover of Tesla's Gigafactory in Austin, Texas, unveiled a significant production milestone: around 380 Cybertruck units are visible on-site. This surge indicates Tesla's accelerated efforts to ramp up its highly anticipated electric pickup production, aligning with its ambitious annual production targets.
Drone Footage Reveals Record Cybertruck Numbers at Giga Texas Amid Production Ramp-Up
A video posted on March 21 by drone pilot and Giga Texas observer Brad Sloan shows over 380 Cybertruck units at the plant, a steady increase from footage taken just over a week ago, which showed around 300 units. The video, titled "Overflowing with Cybertrucks," shows the eastern charging and inspection lot complete with electric pickups and others scattered throughout the outbound lot and other areas of the facility, as shown in the photos below.
According to Teslarati, this is the highest number of Cybertrucks seen at the facility since the initial production units arrived in late November. In the days leading up to the Giga Texas delivery event on November 30, people were astounded to see 25 Cybertrucks, and the ramp-up has been gradual but steady in the meantime.
Just over a month ago, approximately 100 Cybertrucks were seen at the plant, and Tesla has stated that volume production will take 12-18 months. In an October interview, Elon Musk, Tesla's CEO, noted that the company plans to produce approximately 200,000 Cybertrucks annually, or nearly 4,000 units per week. Tesla could boost that number to 250,000 in future years if things go well, though Musk has highlighted the long road to volume production quickly.
The footage also comes just a few days after Tesla achieved a 4680-battery cell milestone, producing roughly 1,000 Cybertruck-worth of cells in a single week. It also comes as the first batches of Cybertruck deliveries have been made to owners in recent months, and Musk stated on Tesla's Q4 earnings call that the automaker expects to sell out of its 2024 builds of the pickup.
Drone Flyovers Shed Light on Tesla Cybertruck Production Surge at Giga Texas
In this month's report, Tesla has been relatively quiet about the production ramp of Cybertruck. However, a drone flyover of the Giga Texas complex suggests that the electric vehicle manufacturer is making significant progress in mass-producing its all-electric pickup truck.
One of the most remarkable aspects of Tesla's manufacturing facilities is the close monitoring by the electric vehicle community. This active involvement has led to drone flyovers being used to monitor Giga Texas from the beginning, providing valuable insights into the production progress.
Based on Roberts' March 13, 2024 footage, Giga Texas produces more Tesla Cybertrucks. Granted, the all-electric pickup trucks could be seen in several areas of the Giga Texas complex. However, Tesla enthusiasts estimated there were over 300 Cybertrucks on the grounds at the time of Roberts' flyover. This would be the highest number of Cybertrucks in Giga, Texas.
