Amber introduces AmberCare, a specialized warranty program for older Tesla models that offers comprehensive coverage for critical EV components beyond the original warranties.
Amber Launches Tailored High Voltage Care Plan for Out-of-Warranty Tesla Vehicles
Amber, a Bay Area startup founded early last year, collaborated with EV technicians, experts, and driver communities to develop vehicle service contracts for EVs.
Amber's "High Voltage Care Plan" is designed specifically for Teslas that have reached the end of their four and eight-year warranties. The plan includes critical components, such as Tesla's high-voltage battery and drive unit, which can be costly to repair if they fail outside of warranty. The plan offers three levels of coverage, with monthly costs ranging from $40 to $120.
Tesla drivers who have scheduled a diagnosis at a local Authorized Repair Facility can use Amber. Customers file a claim online after receiving a quote for the repair, and once approved, Amber works with them to get the invoice paid.
AmberCare Enhances Tesla Service Network, Secures $3.18 Million for Expansion
Amber creates, underwrites, and delivers AmberCare plans, reviews, and reimburses claims in-house. Depending on the coverage, Amber will cover the cost of towing to a nearby Amber Authorized Repair facility and the repair cost upon approval. AmberCare will cover renting a car or using a ridesharing service if necessary.
Joe Pak, Amber's CEO, informed Electrek via mail:
"Today, customers can take their vehicle to any of the 190+ Tesla Service Centers in the US or a growing network of independent EV-specialist repair shops that Amber has vetted for service capability and quality.
For example, an AmberCare customer in Florida can take their vehicle to one of the 14 Tesla Service Centers, a Tesla Service Center in a neighboring state, or to Tesla and EV repair specialist Electrified Garage in Ocala, Florida.
We are actively adding repair service providers to the Amber Authorized Repair Facility network, mainly as more shops invest in training and equipment to service EVs."
Amber currently operates in Connecticut, Florida, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Tennessee, with plans to expand to additional states shortly.
Amber also announced the closing of its $3.18 million seed round, which was led by Era and Prime Sazze and included Alcove Fund, Virta Ventures, Global Millennial Capital, and Root & Shoot Ventures.
