‘Dragon Ball Super’ Spoilers, Characters, Speculation: Is Master Roshi Capable of Using Ultra Instinct?

“Dragon Ball Super” has introduced several new forms of power in the series, which has had fans hyped on how Goku will be able to master each of them. One particular form of power is Ultra Instinct, a state of pure hyper mental focus that allows a fighter to react accordingly to threats without thinking.

This is an exceedingly rare form of power and even Beerus, the God of Destruction, has yet to master it. So it is to the shock of fans when it was revealed that Master Roshi, of all people, is able to perform the technique himself, ComicBook reported. While “Dragon Ball Super” hasn’t exactly confirmed this to be true, the new chapter hints that Goku’s former sensei is in fact on the path to achieving the coveted form.

In the newly released manga on “Dragon Ball Super,” Master Roshi can be seen dodging the attacks of Super Trooper Jiren, which is thought to be impossible given the power difference between the two. Eventually, however, the old man was ringed out but audiences were left stunned by the display that Roshi performed.

Up in the stands, Whis deduced that Roshi’s ability to evade Jiren’s blows is similar to the tenets of “that” technique, which is clearly an allusion to Ultra Instinct. While it isn’t exactly the hyper-focus state itself featured in “Dragon Ball Super,” the angel said that the tenets are similar albeit Roshi’s version is a little unpolished.

Still, given that Roshi is merely human, it’s surprising that the old man is able to achieve even a fraction of the technique, something that even gods themselves are incapable of mastering. When “Dragon Ball Super” first introduced the mental state, the show deeply explained that prolonged usage of the mental state is detrimental to a fighter’s health.

Indeed, even Goku can only use the ability for about a minute before negative effects start to take a toll on his body. And the fact that Master Roshi only exhibited the form for just a few seconds is another indication that the old man understands the technique better than most characters in the “Dragon Ball Super” universe.
