As Gamespot recently reported, Funimation has finally made an announcement as to when U.S. and Canadian fans of the “Dragon Ball” franchise can watch “Dragon Ball Super: Broly.” It will be premiering in Western theatres on Jan. 16, 2019, although the world premiere of the movie will happen earlier on Dec. 13, 2018. It would seem that Funimation CEO Gen Fukunaga is quite confident with the movie’s quality.

"We're thrilled to finally share the official opening date of Dragon Ball Super: Broly with fans since first announcing the acquisition in July," Fukunaga said with regards to the announcement. "From its updated art style to the assembly of canon characters new and old, Dragon Ball Super: Broly is sure to please fans. Creator Akira Toriyama's imagination and masterful storytelling truly shine through in this exciting new movie."

Fans of the franchise will already be familiar with Broly, who is the mysterious Saiyan with seemingly unlimited power. Up until now, there has been much debate as to whether or not this character was canon, as he only ever appeared in movies and never mentioned again. With “Dragon Ball Super: Broly,” it can be safely said that this character is indeed canon.

A trailer for the movie was also recently released and has already racked up millions of views. Suffice it to say, a lot of people are hyped for “Dragon Ball Super: Broly.”

Speaking of hype for the movie, a new character appearing in “Dragon Ball Super: Broly” has also been teased, Comicbook.com reports. As for who this character is, who is only referred to as “That Man,” fans will need to wait until the next issue of V-Jump to find out.
