‘Doctor Who’ season 10’s episode 9, titled “Empress of Mars," is set to follow the Doctor, Bill, and Nardole as they set off on another adventure on the planet of Mars where they will find themselves caught in the middle of a strange conflict between the Ice Warriors and Victorian soldiers. It seems that the upcoming episode will be another look at the skewed interpretation of time and space the series is well-known for.
The synopsis for “Empress of Mars” posted on Den of Geek states, “The Doctor (Peter Capaldi), Bill (Pearl Mackie) and Nardole (Matt Lucas) arrive on Mars, and find themselves in an impossible conflict between Ice Warriors… and Victorian soldiers.
As the Martian hive awakens around them, the Doctor faces a unique dilemma – this time the humans, not the Ice Warriors are the invaders. When Earth is invading Mars, whose side is he on?”
The upcoming episode is set to feature an unusual mix of time and space as Victorian soldiers and Ice Warriors collide in Mars’ extraterrestrial landscape. It seems that The Doctor, Bill, and Nardole will find themselves in the middle of a strange war that definitely harbors some surprises.
The episode 9 promo shows that both parties are quite aggressive and show no signs of backing down or surrendering to their nemesis. According to Cartermatt, it remains unknown what the Victorian soldiers want or need on Martian soil.
The trailer for the upcoming episode shows one of the Victorian soldier leaders threatening that their army is strong enough to defeat “a bunch of upright crocodiles.” However, the Doctor warns, “You don’t stand a chance against the Ice Warriors.”
‘Doctor Who’ season 10’s episode 9, titled “Empress of Mars," is scheduled to air on BBC One on June 10, 2017. It was directed by Wayne Yip and written by Mark Gatiss. It will be followed by episode 10, titled "The Eaters of Light,” directed by Charles Palmer and written by Rona Munro and scheduled to be released on June 17.
