“Devil May Cry” already had an anime adaptation made about the demon hunter’s adventures but it would seem that another one is being planned. What’s more, it would appear that the person at the helm will be Adi Shankar who is also the showrunner behind the Netflix “Castlevania” animated series. Considering the quality of that show, it’s a fair bet that Dante’s return to TV will be an epic event.
As already mentioned, a “Devil May Cry” anime was actually already made several years ago and it was well-received by most fans of the franchise. However, the quality of the recent “Castlevania” anime adaptation makes the prospect of the “DMC” anime Adi Shankar quite promising. Shankar told IGN this in a recent interview, providing details on the project.
The producer was careful not to reveal too much about the “Devil May Cry” anime but he did note that it will “will join Castlevania in what we’re now calling the bootleg multiverse.” Shankar also credited the acquisition of the IP to the success that the “Castlevania” anime has seen. A lot of this is due to the overwhelmingly positive response from fans with regards to the quality of the show.
Shankar even said that the Dracula anime "really over-performed. It did crazy well. We immediately got greenlit for Season 3.” If he is able to bring the same energy and passion to the adaptation of the “Devil May Cry” anime, there is no reason why it wouldn’t see the same level of success in that department.
As Kotaku notes in the correction of its own article, there has yet to be any details with regards to where the “Devil May Cry” anime will air. The current assumption is that it’s going to be a Netflix show. However, until this is officially confirmed, there is no guarantee that this will be the case.
