The Assassin’s Creed series is famous for having as many leaks during development as a boat made of cheese graters, and this time is no different. According to rumors, the next game in the series will be titled “Assassin’s Creed: Origins” and it will be set in ancient Egypt. The title is also being developed by the same studio that created one of the franchise’s most popular installments.
All right, so there’s a lot to unpack in this particular story. There’s the matter of the naval combat feature that rumors say will be included in the game. There have also been several posts on Reddit, providing details on game mechanics and settings that Ubisoft is clearly not ready to officially announce yet.
One of the most recent details to leak is an image featuring someone on a boat floating on what can only be assumed is the Nile river. In the riverbank and beyond, a blurred landscape seems fairly reminiscent of how ancient Egyptian cities have been depicted, so that’s a plus for whoever called the setting.
What’s more, it would seem that sources within Ubisoft or, at least, people familiar with the project confirmed to Eurogamer that the image is the real deal. So, this confirms that some of the leaked information are accurate, including the naval battle thing and that the game is set in some place with lots of Sun that could potentially be ancient Egypt.
In any case, it’s hard to imagine executives over at Ubisoft being too happy with these leaks and someone is very likely going to be fired for them, Forbes points out. On a more positive note, at least fans of the franchise know that the game’s development is progressing and that based on the image leaked, it could be the best-looking Assassin’s Creed title yet.
