Fans of “Designated Survivor” are itching to see when their favorite series will return for its third season. While it has been confirmed that “Designated Survivor” Season 3 will be coming out in 2019, it might be quite late in the year before it does. As for what fans can expect from the upcoming episodes, it’s possible that President Kirkman (Kiefer Sutherland) will be the first Independent to win the presidency.
As CarterMatt recently noted, one of the characters who will play a major role in “Designated Survivor” Season 3 will be Kirkman’s campaign manager Lorraine (Julie White). She will essentially be responsible for helping to elect the titular “Designated Survivor” as president to solidify his claim to the office. After all, he was only able to become the commander-in-chief under very unusual circumstances.
In any case, fans already know that Kirkman will be running as an Independent in “Designated Survivor” Season 3 and this spells huge challenges for him. Candidates running without a party typically stand very little chance of actually winning in the real world. If Kirkman ends up becoming POTUS despite this major handicap, the show will then veer further away from realistic narratives than it already has.
This is where Lorraine will come in since it will be her job to help him achieve exactly this impossible goal. Without party influence, money, and recognition backing him up, Kirkman is in for a fight of his life. Fortunately, his campaign manager used to be the head of a PR firm. This means that he might stand a better chance than most to actually win as an Independent in “Designated Survivor” Season 3.
On that note, fans might want to brace for the inevitable disappointment of Kirkman’s loss in “Designated Survivor” Season 3. Even if this show is fiction, there is a limit to how far the creators can push the viewers’ willingness to suspend their disbelief.
