“Death Note” is one of the most popular manga series during its time. But unlike long-running series such as “Naruto,” “One Piece” or “Bleach” that spanned for several years, Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata's series only lasted for three years and the manga concluded by 2006.
But after fourteen years since the original series’ conclusion, “Death Note” will be back once more. In fact, a few details are already available such as the “Death Note” revival chapter release date, the number of pages of the one-shot as well as the setting of its plot.
The “Death Note” revival chapter is also known as a one-shot chapter which means it won’t be released as a series. The manga will arrive as one massive chapter that has a length of 87 pages, according to Comic Book.
It will be released in the Jump SQ magazine which will be on sale on February 4, 2020. Unfortunately for English readers, there’s still no word yet as to when its official English language version might drop. The confirmation was made via Jump SQ’s official website.
Crunchyroll likewise announced the “Death Note” revival chapter release via a post on its official social media account, according to CBR. “First New Death Note Manga Chapter in 12 Years to Be Published in February's Jump SQ,” Crunchyroll tweeted.
A part of the “Death Note” one-shot manuscript was exhibited in the “Kagyō 30-Shūnen Kinen Obata Takeshi-ten Never Complete” (30th Work Anniversary Takeshi Obata Exhibition: Never Complete) exhibition, according AnimeNewsNetwork. The exhibition ran from July 13 to August 12 last year.
In the original “Death Note,” a teenager named Light Yagami came into found a supernatural notebook where he can kill anyone by writing their names on it. Thus, he became some sort of vigilante and executioner with the goal of ridding the world of all criminals, which naturally caused the authorities to become involved and investigate the deaths.
The setting for the upcoming “Death Note” one-shot manga will be right after the events of the original series. The notebook will fall back to earth once more but it’s yet unclear who will find it this time.
