Deadpool is heading to the small screen.
While fans are eager to see a second movie installment of the “Merc with the Mouth,” cable network FX has reportedly ordered a 10-episode, yet-to-be-titled animated series, According to Variety, the upcoming project is expected to be released in 2018, and will feature Marvel’s Deadpool. “Atlanta” creator and Golden Globe winner Donald Glover and brother, “Atlanta” staff writer Stephen Glover, will be coming into the project as showrunners, executive producers, and writers. Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory from Marvel will co-executive producer the series also.
Loeb said in a statement, “How much more fun could this be? Deadpool, Donald and FX – the perfect fit for the Merc with the Mouth. We’re thrilled that our relationship with FX that started with “Legion” continues with what is sure to be a groundbreaking show in adult animation.”
Deadpool has become one of Marvel’s most popular characters, no doubt because of Ryan Reynolds’ breakout performance in the “Deadpool” movie, Deadline notes. The film became one of 20th Century Fox’s highest-grossing movies at USD647 million in the box office. The success of the first film had led to the development of the movie’s sequel.
FX said the upcoming animated series will be an “animated adult action-comedy.” Once it’s launched, it will join Marvel’s growing roster of small screen content, which include FX’s “Legion,” and “Luke Cage,” “Jessica Jones,” “Daredevil,” “Iron Fist” and, “The Defenders,” which are all on Netflix., the New York Times reported.
