“Dark” Season 2 is expected to get rid of some of its characters as has been hinted by writer Jantje Friese. For obvious reasons, Friese didn’t disclose whether those that are going to be killed off will be the newcomers or the characters that have been introduced in the first installment.
“We’ve done our thinking, and [Dark Season 2] would put more light on other people in the character structures we haven’t been through that much, while not losing some of the ones that you kind of came closer to. But also introducing new ones, while maybe killing some other ones. We actually have a lot of ideas where to take it,” the writer told IndieWire.
But apart from the plot, what’s really interesting about “Dark” Season 2 – or the entire series for that matter – is the development process of Friese and the writers in the show. Apparently, the writing process of the team is so dynamic that they’re constantly trying to explore a lot of narratives despite the draft already been made.
This allows the team to truly explore the far corners of the story and pick apart the most intriguing ones and discarding the obvious route. It might also explain why it took more than a year for “Dark” Season 2 to come out. And speaking of which, the upcoming installment is expected to drop in June as has been revealed by series actor Oliver Masucci.
This is certainly in line with the announcement that “Dark” Season 2 finished filming back in November. With the show now in post-production, a June release does seem plausible enough, especially with the fan base growing restless by the week.
As for the plot of “Dark” Season 2, the showrunners are keeping everything under wraps. But Odar did hint that Jonas (Louis Hoffman) will be among the main characters that will take the spotlight once more. Whatever the case, the second installment will be answering a lot of questions while simultaneously creating more mysteries as the story unfold.
