Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. (DSME) will localize a shaft generator motor and has signed a preliminary deal with Hyosung Heavy Industries Corp. for its joint development using a permanent magnet.
A shaft generator motor is a key part of generating electricity to propel ships.
This eco-friendly technology reduces carbon dioxide and sulfur oxide emissions by raising the efficiency of ship engines by 3 percent than that of the current engines.
DSME said that developing the shaft generator motor will sharpen its edge against rivals in bagging new ship orders.
