‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Will Be a First-Person RPG That Plays Like ‘Borderlands’

As video games go, the reveal of the gameplay for “Cyberpunk 2077” has been one of the most hotly anticipated in the industry. The one at E3 2018 was done behind closed doors, with only a few select individuals chosen to participate. Fortunately, some details were still shared. It seems the sci-fi game will be an FPS with RPG elements that play similarly to franchises like “Borderlands.”

The details regarding the exclusive gameplay reveal come courtesy of IGN, which notes that one of the most surprising aspects of the game was that it is an FPS. Considering how “The Witcher” series was largely third-person, the change can be a bit disconcerting. Fortunately, as a CD Projekt Red game, it still comes with immersive RPG elements.

In terms of combat details, the publication likened the experience to those with “Borderlands” by Gearbox or “Deus Ex” by Square Enix. Players will be delighted to know that there are combat skills involved as well, such as bullet ricochets and bullet time.

Apparently, the attendees were not allowed to take the game out for a spin themselves. However, the impressions regarding the responsiveness of the guns have so far been encouraging.

With regards to the character that players will be taking on, a press release from the developers confirms that it’s someone named “V,” Kotaku reports. While players will be able to create the gender, appearance, and class, “V” already has an established personality. The only things that gamers will then be able to control once the game starts are the actions of the character going forward.

Apparently, the decision to make “V” an established character was intended for better relationship-building. This makes sense since it helps the writers create more believable scenarios for that character. Naturally, the events will still be shaped by how the players choose to use that character.
