The “Crusaders Kings” is Paradox Interactive’s long-running grand strategy game series that originally came out in 2004. However, 17 years and three games later, the franchise has yet to launch on consoles. That changes soon as “Crusader Kings 3” is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

The series has had some of the most popular strategy games on PC for years. But like many titles in this genre, the games were originally designed with PC in mind. Paradox aims to change that by bringing “Crusader Kings 3” to current-gen consoles.

“Crusader Kings 3” is set in the Middle Ages and it also features heavy RPG elements. Players will assume the role of a noble leader. Whatever they decide to do, whether it is to become a king or a respected knight, the ultimate goal of building a vast dynasty.

It is worth noting that Paradox has refrained from calling it a port, though. Paradox has been referring to the project as a “console adaptation” and it may have something to do with how they are developing “Crusader Kings 3” for the new platforms.

“One of the biggest things we’ve learned in bringing our games to console platforms is the importance of user interface and controller support. If you are making a game for all platforms from the start, you can find a common ground,” Paradox told GamesBeat. The publisher added that bringing PC games to consoles will require effort in “reworking parts of the interface.”

The brief trailer for the “Crusader Kings 3” console adaptation provides a glance at how these UI changes will be implemented. As seen in the photo above, one of the UI changes will introduce “radial menus” that arrange the menu options in a way that maximizes the thumbstick on both PS5 and Xbox controllers.

“Crusader Kings 3” was part of Xbox’s Gamescom 2021 showcase earlier this week, which appears to be part of the deal Paradox has with Microsoft. Aside from the apparent marketing partnership, Paradox confirmed that the game will be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch. Unfortunately, a specific release date is still unknown and Paradox did not promise to release the console adaptation this year.
