One of the confirmed plots for the final installment “Criminal Minds” season 15 is Spencer Reid’s (Matthew Gray Gubler) all-new love interest. With how season 14, many viewers thought it is going to be Jennifer Jareau a.k.a. JJ (A. J. Cook). A recent casting update, however, confirms a new woman is joining the series.
For a brief recap, “Criminal Minds” season 15 will pick from a jaw-dropping confession between long-time colleagues JJ and Reid. The two went through a very twisted game of Truth or Dare with an unsub right before Rossi’s (Joe Mantegna) wedding in the season 14 finale. JJ was forced to admit she has “always loved” Reid but she was scared to say it before and now, with kids and a husband, it is simply way complicated to admit.
This turn of events was met with mixed reactions. Some viewers support it while others do not welcome the idea of a JJ-Reid ship as these characters like brothers and sisters. While the first episodes of “Criminal Minds” season 15 is confirmed to address that very awkward ending, it also might not lead to anything romantic between JJ and Reid. The latter is set to meet a new woman — a recurring role — who will swoon him in the final season.
This week, it was learned that “Perception” alum Rachael Leigh Cook has signed for “Criminal Minds” season 15 taking on the role of Reid’s love interest named Max. TVLine described her character as “a quirky, kind-hearted, candid woman” and with immense similarities with Dr. Reid’s personality. However, it does not seem like Max will get a lot of screen time in the 10-episode final season as she is expected to appear in two episodes at the minimum.
The cop procedural show centered on FBI profilers saw a massive cut in its episode count in 2018 after CBS only ordered 15 episodes for season 14. It then sparked speculations that the show was getting axed. On the bright side, the network allowed writers and producers to properly wrap up its story through “Criminal Minds” season 15.
