“Code Geass” Season 3 has been on the minds of fans of the anime series for quite a while. Unfortunately, instead of giving fans an entire, new season of the sci-fi anime, they are getting a movie. What’s more, it would seem that the film will be set in an alternate timeline. Will this alternate reality feature a living Lelouch or is he permanently dead?
For those who are not familiar with the series, the events of “Code Geass” Season 3 might seem confusing. It doesn’t help that it isn’t exactly a season but a movie titled “Code Geass R3 Fukkatsu no Lelouch.” In this trailer of the movie, it would appear that Lelouch is at least known to be dead at the beginning of the film. Whether or not this remains the same by the end of the movie will just have to be seen.
In any case, a piece by Monsters & Critics earlier this month noted how the story of “Code Geass” Season 3 has been changed a bit. This stems from how the details in the previous movies about the franchise have also been tampered with in order to leave the door open for a sequel. Who cares about story continuity when there is money to be made, right?
As for the fate of Lelouch in “Code Geass” Season 3, or rather, the movie, it would seem that the title is indicative of his continued survival. However, this is not necessarily the case since the director of “Code Geass R2,” Goro Taniguchi, had said that the fate of the character is actually open to interpretation. Writer Ichiro Okouchi was a little clearer on his stand on the issue when he said that Lelouch is dead.
“Code Geass” Season 3 or “Code Geass R3 Fukkatsu no Lelouch,” whichever fans prefer, will premiere on February 2019. Fans might want to keep track of this date to find out the real fate of Lelouch.
