There’s still no news whether or not “Code Geass” Season 3 is coming in the future. However, judging by the previous statements of those behind the series’ creation, it’s unlikely that a third installment will occur.
One of the major reasons why “Code Geass” Season 3 will not be coming back is the fact that its main protagonist is dead. And even though he’s alive in the movies, it’s already been established that the events in the film essentially takes place in a different universe, Comicbook reported.
There’s also the previous statement of writer Ichiro Okouchi to consider. He said that he intended to close the story of Lelouch and the rest of the characters in the second installment and wasn’t entertaining the idea of pushing for “Code Geass” Season 3. But after careful consideration, he did write another plotline for the titular hero.
Unfortunately, this came in the form of the film, leaving the state of the series in limbo. Now, after that decision went public, there were two opinions that sprouted from the series’ fan base. First, some are irked that Okouchi chose to make a film that occurred in a different timeline rather than leaving the series alone. They feel that the creators are simply milking the franchise for more money. Others are simply happy that they get to see Lelouch in action again even though the plot of the movie doesn’t track with what would’ve occurred in “Code Geass” Season 3.
In an attempt to appease the negative narrative that has emerged, director Gora Taniguchi said that the story of the series and that of the film is not supposed to clash against each other. Rather, the film is their way of exploring other avenues that were difficult – even impossible – to do in “Code Geass” Season 3. Whatever the case, the third film has already been made and is currently available in select areas, while its release date in North America has been scheduled for May 7-8.
