For those waiting for “Code Geass” Season 3, you shouldn’t get your hopes up as writer Ichiro Okouchi isn’t all that interested in expanding the series. This is understandable given that Lelouch’s death all but assured the conclusion of the franchise.
In the place of for “Code Geass” Season 3, a new film has been made for the franchise. Titled “Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection,” the movie will have Lelouch take center stage once again. Initially, fans were confused at this development given that Lelouch died in the series.
To iron things out, director Goro Taniguchi explained that the plotline of the film will be following the story told in the movies and not in the series. He added that the main point in creating the movie is to explore the avenues that haven’t been tapped by the anime. While the statement was a huge blow for those patiently waiting for a “Code Geass” Season 3, others are simply happy that Lelouch and the rest of the cast will be returning on screen.
The film has already aired in some areas and audiences from North America can expect it to hit the theaters on May 7-8. There’s also a short trailer for the movie that hammers home the fact that Lelouch is alive and well. Apart from this major plot divergence that would’ve taken place in “Code Geass” Season 3, there are also several fronts that have been changed in the movie. For instance, it’s not only Lelouch that will be returning but Shirley as well.
What’s more, Shirley will apparently play a vital role in reviving Lelouch and it isn’t clear how this will take place. Also, there are rumors out there claiming that Shirley will be having her own Geass on the heels of an unknown deal that occurred between her and C2. As for the chances of “Code Geass” Season 3 being made, it seems that avenue will not be expanded by the show creators. Indeed, Okouchi previously said that the story of the series has all been exhausted that’s why they’ve turned to the film to expand the franchise’s narrative.
