As soon as “Chicago Fire” season 7 premieres, Casey (Jesse Spencer) will display a rash and dangerous decision-making on the field. A sneak peek for the show’s return next week reveals that the heartbroken captain will risk getting crushed by a malfunctioning elevator.
A brief trailer for the first episode of “Chicago Fire” season 7 (via TV Guide) shows Casey rescuing a badly hurt maintenance guy. But the problem is the injured individual is sitting below a faulty elevator that no one can stop from slowly falling on them, potentially crushing them to death.
The unlikely behavior Casey shows in the “Chicago Fire” season 7 opener is linked to his wife Gabby Dawson (Monica Raymund), who left in the previous season. According to the trailer’s video description, Casey seems to have gotten a “death wish in the aftermath of his breakup with Dawson.”
Fans may recall that Casey and Dawson had an explosive fight in season 6. It later convinced Dawson to accept a job offer in Puerto Rico. Season 6 only implied that Dawson was leaving to work outside of Chicago. But it was confirmed that Raymund had officially left the show, which means Dawson and Casey’s marriage is also going to end. How this affects Casey will certainly be explored in “Chicago Fire” season 7.
In the official synopsis for the “Chicago Fire” season 7 opener, titled “A Closer Eye,” fans will get a glimpse of Casey’s life without Dawson. Unfortunately, it is going to have repercussions on his work while his team welcomes a new firefighter.
The “Chicago Fire” season 7 premiere will also establish a new feud. According to official teasers, Boden (Eamonn Walker) will be butting heads with new Assistant Deputy Commissioner Jerry Gorsch (Steven Boyer).
What causes the beef between the Firehouse 51 battalion chief and the new leadership is still a mystery. However, Gorsch is described as someone determined to climb up the ranks but does not ever miss being a firefighter on the field. Will Gorsch view Boden’s dedication as interfering with his ambition? “Chicago Fire” season 7 premieres on Wednesday, Sept. 26, at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
