Capcom followed-through with a good amount of “Resident Evil 2” remake gameplay walkthrough in another Electronic Entertainment Expo 2018 presentation this week. And it is getting generally positive responses.
The demo, as played on the PlayStation 4, brings “Resident Evil 2” fans back to Raccoon City. Gamers will immediately notice a great leap in the performance and graphics of the remastered title, which was accomplished by running “Resident Evil 2” on the same engine as some of the flagship titles from Capcom, such as the newly announced “Devil May Cry 5” and “Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.”
GameSpot commended the remake’s improved camera angle — a major factor to consider for a game that is played in third-person. The same report noted that Capcom maintained the basic layouts of the environment in the original “Resident Evil 2.”
However, Capcom developers also noted that there were significant changes applied when they designed the “Resident Evil 2” remake. At the E3 event, franchise brand manager Mike Lunn said, "This isn't just a remake. It's a whole new game we're building off the foundation of the original game. So there's going to be a lot of familiar stuff, but a lot of new stuff as well."
Meanwhile, players will also notice that the monsters in the “Resident Evil 2” remake have become tougher to defeat. At one point in the gameplay walkthrough, one of the Capcom producers demonstrating the play almost died from just a few zombie bites. So the developers advised players to be more tactical in consuming their ammo supply.
Apart from the familiar gameplay and locations, the “Resident Evil 2” remake also brings back two known characters: the rookie police officer Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield, who Capcom described as “a street-savvy college student.” The remake will dig deeper into these characters’ stories by offering separate campaigns, letting players “see events from their individual perspectives.”
“Resident Evil 2” remake will be released on Jan. 25, 2019 on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
