Activision is changing the way players can access post-launch DLC for “Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.” From now on, future content is available only after a player has purchased the whole season pass.
One of the most notable changes in the game’s release is the way Activision will roll out post-launch DLC. As Polygon noted, the publisher allowed the purchase of individual expansion titles in previous “Call of Duty” titles. However, buying them all together through a season pass notably costs less.
Activision did not really go into the detail why it is changing its post-launch release strategy. On a dedicated FAQ page, updated on Wednesday, the company said, “We’re redefining the digital content season for ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’ by delivering more content with more frequency.”
Like the usual case, the Black Ops Pass will include four new Zombies mode, 12 Multiplayer maps, and four exclusive Blackout characters. Although Activision is yet to announce the timeline of launch for the DLC packs, it is likely that content will be divided into four separate releases. So players can expect to get a new Zombies mode, three new multiplayer maps, and a new Blackout character per release.
Meanwhile, the Black Ops Pass also lets players access the exclusive “bonus” Zombies map, titled “Classified,” which will be available on day one.
Right now, the only way to avail of the Black Ops Pass is by purchasing the “Black Ops 4” special editions, namely the Digital Deluxe Edition ($99.99), the Digital Deluxe Enhanced Edition ($129.99), and the Pro Edition ($119.99). Players who have already pre-ordered the base copy of the game will get to upgrade their purchases to these special editions before and after the release of “Black Ops 4.”
Luckily, however, Activision confirmed that it will allow players to purchase the season pass separately, but its release date has yet to be finalized.
“Black Ops 4” is slated to launch on Oct. 12 on the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
