Activision is bringing two of the most popular action movie heroes to “Call of Duty” as part of an ’80s-themed update. This week, players of “Warzone” and “Black Ops Cold War” will revisit famous action scenes and movie locations without leaving the game’s map as Rambo and John McClane enters the battlefield.
‘Call of Duty’ games are getting action movies update
The addition of John McClane and Rambo are some of the highlights of the “Call of Duty” ’80s Action Heroes event. In the one-minute trailer Activision released Tuesday, fans can see Rambo preparing for battle with his squad donning his familiar red headband while facing enemies without a shirt on.
In a blog post, developers confirmed that these action movie characters will appear in the store. However, the trailer and promo images do not contain any image of John McClane. In the video teaser, though, fans can see Frank Wood doing one of McClane’s most familiar moves -- taping a gun on his back for a sure-win surprise attack -- that was based on this scene from the classic action film.
‘Call of Duty’ ’80s event is bringing Nakatomi Plaza into Verdansk
Snippets of the “Call of Duty” trailer also show the ’80s-themed update will add other elements from these movies. Fans will find the Nakatomi Plaza where McClane single-handedly saved people from the villainous Hans Gruber. However, the same post clarifies that “Warzone” is not moving to California where the tower is because Nakatomi Plaza is the one moving to Verdansk.
“Call of Duty: Warzone” players will also start finding new Survival Camps across Verdansk, which is inspired by the movie “Rambo: First Blood Part 2.” There will be 10 camps scattered in the map that may contain loots and dog tags that could give players more rewards. Another Rambo-inspired element to be added in the game is the CIA Outpost in the northwest region of Verdansk. “Maybe this can be used to stage an ambush that only a true guerilla warfare expert could handle,” the developer hints.
The “Call of Duty” ’80s Action Heroes event will go live on Wednesday, May 19, at 9 p.m. PT on “Warzone” and “Black Ops Cold War.” The update goes live for “Call of Duty Mobile” players on May 20, at 5 p.m. PT.
