Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan are set to reprise their respective roles in “Outlander” Season 4, with the installment just around the corner. Both these stars have been quite the performers in the time-traveling series, fleshing out their characters that resonate deeply with its target audience.
It even got to a point where Sam Heughan refused a line last season because he felt that the dialogue was out of character. Heughan and Caitriona Balfe also share a deep connection with each other behind the scenes, which helps with the show’s success, although their relationship is purely platonic.
After all, Caitriona Balfe is engaged to Irish music producer Tony McGill, while Sam Heughan is currently dating Amy Shiels. But their bond is special all the same as they heavily support each other, Parade reported.
“We’re each other’s biggest supporters. [Sam Heughan] is always there if I ever need to talk, or if I’m stressed out about something, and vice versa. We have very similar personality traits in some ways, but then also we handle things very differently,” Caitriona Balfe shared.
When asked about their differences in how they approach things, Caitriona Balfe said that she’s more “bullish” in handling circumstances. This personality trait may have come from her childhood; the actress said that she grew up being quite a “ballsy” girl. As for Sam Heughan, Balfe said that he’s more passive in dealing with situations and sometimes needs some motivation to stand up for himself.
Other than being supportive of each other, Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe are also quite humorous, especially when it comes to teasing each other. For instance, this Twitter video shows Balfe mimicking Heughan and his accent during a segment where they were reading tweets about them and “Outlander.”
One would only need to look at the clip to see the bond between the two, something that is quite endearing for fans of the time-traveling series. Indeed, a few loud followers of “Outlanders” have repeatedly voiced their desire for Sam Heughan to date Caitriona Balfe. Balfe herself said that this desire heavily stems from how they portray their characters on the show and is a testament to the burning passion that Claire and Jamie emit.
